On Saturday 8th January Swain Taekwon-Do attended the P.U.M.A. International Open Championships in Swindon. There were almost 400 competitors from many schools and organisations in attendance.
Swain Taekwon-Do took 8 members – competitors, coaches and competition officials! Read on to find out how they got on.
2020 was the second year the competition had been a 1-day event. Mr and Mrs Swain went up to Swindon on the Friday night to help set up the hall and be ready for the early start on Saturday.
The competition hall had 6 matted competition areas with raised seating for spectators, and a second room for registration and warm-up space for competitors.
Doors opened at 8am, and the hall started to fill up. Mrs Swain had been asked to spend the day as one of PUMAs coaches and Mr Swain was one of the main centre referees for the day. The coaches & referees meeting started at 8:30, and the competition was underway by 9am! All Swain Taekwon-Do competitors gave great performances often against tough opponents – there were many members of National Teams present in the black belt categories with World & European Championship experience.
We would like to say a massive thank you to the following students who gave up their time to officiate (some competing as well!):
- Miss Scott
- Mr T Bailey
- Mr A Bailey
- Mrs Hallett
- Miss Mohan-Singh
And a massive congratulations to the following competitors. We know what it takes to prepare for competitions at all levels, and are very proud of you all for putting yourselves forward!

It was a busy day for everyone, so we didn’t get too many photos, but there are a few below. It would be great to get more colour belts competing at this event next year!
